january 15.05
It
was 1:10 am and the ultra groovy Stones
Place Bar was rocking. The Slime Dogs were in their second
hour of what was supposed to be a 45 minute set. It was a
crazy night with Greg Godovitch opening with an acoustic set
more like a camp fire sing-along than the Goddo from my blurred
memories of the Picadilly Tube of the mid-seventies... Then
there was the wacked out performance of our new favourite
band, "The Pungent Brothers", with the political
rants of Wally and his props cleverly intertwined with the
driving dance beats and Mike and Jimmy's screaming Eastwood
Guitars... then the Slime Dogs hit the stage...
The Stones Place, with it's collection of vintage Rolling
Stones memorabilia and comfy couches was the perfect setting
for this January “shake the winter blahs” show.
The bar cleared as the Pungent Brothers left the building...
and we hit the stage to the blank faces of a handful of hanger-on’s...
with each pulsing thump of the Slimes the crowd started to
roll in off Queen St... the dance floor filled... the Slimes
kicked it in as JoJo keep yelling out what the next song was
going to be as the last one ended...
At 1:12 am a group of 10 young cute party girls poured on
to the dance floor... they hopped and bopped and added a buzz
to the room... with yelps and screams the party birds cheered
us on... JoJo was the main target of their affection... the
attention got JoJo in the party mood and we all started rocking
more...
The gaggle of party girls kept dancing and everyone in the
bar was watching them bump and grind and slide up and down
each other... and they kept screaming for JoJo...
... we finished a killer version of Concrete Blonde's God
is a Bullet...
"you guys are so much fun to play for!" said a partying
JoJo with a beer in one hand and her mic in the other...
"We love you, would you like to read my shirt... it's
in braille..." shouted the party girl ringleader who
was dancing just inches away from JoJo.
JoJo smiled and laughed and all of us in the band and in the
bar howled with laughter as the team of partying lesbians
kept dancing and yelling for JoJo...
Then there was a loud burst of laughter as it finally hit
JoJo that this team were more then just fans of her singing,
they liked and wanted the whole tightly packed Diva that she
is...
