Pretty in Pink
Cedar Beach Dance Hall, Musselman Lake, June 11.05

At noon it was already 35 degrees with 500% humidity... we had started lugging the gear down the stairs to the waiting fleet of transports to set up at Cedar Beach Dance hall for the Pretty in Pink fundraiser for the Walk to End Breast Cancer. Response to the show was solid but with the heat we weren't sure what the turn out would be...

JoJo's sister Karen JoJo's sister Karen and Richard (Croc) had shown sporting a bright Pink hairdo... this was just a taste of the sea of pink about to invade the quiet banks of Musselman Lake... The doors opened at 7:00 with DJ Mike Felds spinning the party tunes and playing camp counselor to the hordes of screaming kids... with hula hoop and bubble-gum contests the kids were in perfect party mood.. the door was busy as the party goers filled the hall... Pink was everywhere and from the AVC boys shirts to Tom Brown's hair to the Summerhayes family's matching attire...everyone wanted to party...

The Slime Dogs took the stage around 9:30 and kicked the hall into a bopping dance sweat... JoJo was the true Pink Diva with a hot pink wig and a special pink outfit all the way from Victoria Secrets... the boys in the band sported the manly salmon look with the exception of Grant's pink ensemble that Jo and Laura had chosen from the women’s fashion section of Walmart..."Hey, I have those pants!" said a cute startled teenager as she looked in shock at Grant in his Capri’s...

It wasn't ‘til halfway through the second set that we noticed Stevie wasn't sweating! I twisted between a few amps to the drum stage and noticed that Stevie was rocking in his own little comfort controlled area with his own 24" fan... I laughed and yelled "you bastard" as I went back to join the rest of the crew under the melting banks of spotlights at front stage... the middle of the stage was reserved for Laura's swarm of dancing girlfriends who danced and sang and rocked all night...

At midnight the spotlights revealed the tall lanky profile of Cedar Beaches' worst nightmare "Wally"... as the Pungent Brothers attacked the stage with their rhythmic rants about Older Women, WaWa, George Bush and Jen with no pants filled the hall...

The dance hall filled with over 200 friends, neighbours and trailer park partiers who were all harassed by Diva Jen and her flock of muscle men in pink working the door along with Croc and Karen for a great cause... Laura and her team of side-kicks worked the room and sold all of the Pink Wristbands and by the time the steam had settled we had raised over $3200 for Breast Cancer Research... all JoJo has left to do now is walk the 60kms in September...
